Currently, the wine shop continues to offer wines but the property is listed for sale at $3.3 million because the founder, Dutch-born architect Albert Brennink, is returning to Europe.
He and his son, Edward, planted a vineyard and a herb garden on this Cowichan Valley property, on which the elder Brennink settled his family when they emigrated from Europe in 1979. The style of the wines is Old World, reflecting the European palate of the Brennink family.
When another Vancouver Island winery pulled out its chasselas – the major white in Switzerland – the Brenninks moved the mature vines to their test vineyard. They used cuttings to develop a substantial planting in their estate vineyard, which produced its first crop in 2007.
