The Slamka family (Slamka is Slovak for “little straw,” hence the winery name) has grown grapes here for about 35 years. The oldest vines, a variety dear to the Slamka family, are auxerrois, used both for an old vines auxerrois and a rare auxerrois icewine. Other varieties here include pinot noir and sauvignon blanc, with recent plantings of syrah and viognier.
After a decade jammed into a tiny winery and tasting room, in 2005, Little Straw built a large, two-storey winery, offering great views from the wine shop, elbow room for efficient winemaking and space for a restaurant and a rentable conference room.
