400 Smythe Drive
Penticton, BC V2A 8W6
Named # 1 Winery in BC at the 2011 Wine Access Canadian Wine Awards, Painted Rock is singularly committed to the production of ultra premium Okanagan wines.
Named for the pictographs that border the property, Painted Rock Estate Winery is situated on a spectacular bench that overlooks the shores of Skaha Lake in Penticton, BC. The vineyard has a unique micro-climate which produces wines worthy of the most discriminating palates.
We adhere to the strictest protocols in our estate vineyard and throughout the winemaking process, employing the best modern technologies and expertise, while respecting old world traditions.
Vancouver investment advisor John Skinner, a passionate wine enthusiast, released the first reds from his Skaha Lake Bench vineyard in the fall of 2009. With the winery, he is making a career switch after a quarter century as a broker. He has retained top-flight consultants for both vineyard planning and winemaking, including Bordeaux ace Alain Sutre. Except for a block of chardonnay, the vineyard is planted with syrah and the five Bordeaux reds.
The first vintage in 2007 was made at the Poplar Grove Winery; the second was made at the Stag’s Hollow Winery. Skinner had a 1,200-square-metre winery ready for the 2009 vintage and the inaugural release of the wines. At the 2009 Okanagan Fall Wine Festival, Painted Rock was named the “Best New Winery” to open that year.
