12791 Blundell Road
Already among the largest producers of blueberries in Richmond (about 1.5 million pounds a year), Dave and Neeta Sandhu added a fruit winery to their urban farm.
Dave, born in India in 1966, has grown blueberries in the Fraser Valley since 1991. In the spacious tasting room, they offer almost two dozen fruit wines, plus a growing portfolio of grape wines (gewürztraminer, pinot gris, pinot noir, merlot and cabernet sauvignon, the latter with purchased grapes). The Sandhus have just planted a hectare of reichensteiner vines at their Richmond farm.
Winemaker Ron Taylor prefers to leave enough residual sweetness in the fruit wines to lift the aromas and flavours. Perhaps the most intriguing is the gooseberry wine, a dry white with a smoky aroma.
